PHILADELPHIA – Is the reported willingness of Arab Gulf states to fund a U.S. military campaign in Syria really about major oil and gas interests that run through the country?
The potential for trillions of dollars of energy revenue in deals that snake through Syrian territory may be a motivating factor for the U.S., Russia, Turkey and Arab states in the current Syria crisis.
Syria is a key energy transit route to Europe. A number of countries appear to be seeking dominance of the energy market that runs through Syria.
In a hearing earlier this week, Secretary of State John Kerry said Arab counties have offered to pay for any U.S. military intervention in Syria.
“With respect to Arab countries offering to bear costs and to assess, the answer is profoundly yes,” Kerry said. “They have. That offer is on the table.”
Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla., asked for an estimated amount the Arabs might contribute. Kerry replied that they offered to pay for a full invasion.
“In fact, some of them have said that if the United States is prepared to go do the whole thing the way we’ve done it previously in other places, they’ll carry that cost,” Kerry said. “That’s how dedicated they are at this. That’s not in the cards, and nobody’s talking about it, but they’re talking in serious ways about getting this done.”
Unmentioned are major gas and oil deals that could impact the economies of Qatar, Turkey and Saudi Arabia enormously.
In 2011, Syria announced it had discovered a promising gas field in the city of Homs, which would later see some of the fiercest battles between Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s forces and the rebels.
Oil Minister Sufian Allawi told the state-run SANA news agency that the first wells “were in the Homs governorate and the flow rate is 400,000 cubic meters per day.”
“The discovery opens new perspectives in the region of Qalamun, and the Syrian company will continue its drilling,” said Allawi.
Beside the prospect of its own gas field, Syria is also one of the most strategic locations for natural gas pipelines to flow to Europe.
Qatar, home to the world’s largest gas field along with Iran, has proposed a gas pipeline from the Gulf to Turkey that would traverse Syria to the Mediterranean, with the gas then being shipped to Europe.
However, Assad in 2009 refused to go along with the plan, instead inking deals with Russia and Iran.
Syria is site of the proposed construction of a massive underground gas pipeline that, if completed, could drastically undercut the strategic energy power of U.S. ally Qatar and also would cut Turkey out of the pipeline flow.
Dubbed the “Islamic pipeline,” the project may ultimately favor Russia and Iran against Western energy interests.
Set to open in 2016, Iran, Iraq and Syria signed a deal in 2010 to construct the 3,480-mile natural gas pipeline connecting Iran’s South Pars field to European customers.
Iranian Deputy Oil Minister Javad Oji announced the pipeline would ultimately have the capacity to pump 3.9 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day. He told Iran’s official Mehr News Agency the route would “pass through Iran, Iraq, Syria, the southern Lebanon territories and also through the Mediterranean basin,” with a refinery and infrastructure to be built in Damascus.
A key portion of the Islamic pipeline is concentrated on the Syrian ports, which would export directly to Europe out of the Eastern Mediterranean.
Russia has reportedly built up its naval presence along the major Syrian ports of Latakia and Tartus.
The Islamic pipeline is viewed as a major threat to Turkey, which has long desired to become the main bridge for natural gas and oil between the East and the West.
Turkey, however, is a key player in the Nabucco natural gas pipeline, which is being constructed to transit natural gas to Europe from the Central Asia and Caspian regions. The pipeline is set to traverse Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary, and end in Austria. Turkey has been a key supporter of the rebels fighting Assad’s regime, while Qatar has reportedly been supplied arms and training to the rebels.
If Assad can be deposed, Turkey and Qatar would like the Nabucco pipeline to run through Syria.
Perhaps in a bid to wean Russia off of the Islamic pipeline, Saudi Arabia last month presented a plan to Moscow in which Russia would reject Syria’s president in return for a huge arms deal and a pledge to boost Russian influence in the Arab world.
Agence France-Presse reported President Vladimir Putin refused the plan in a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s intelligence chief, Prince Bandar bin Sultan.
Bandar reportedly proposed that Saudi Arabia buy $15 billion of weapons from Russia and invest “considerably in the country,” according to AFP.
Demonstrating that oil interests are clearly at play, AFP reported: “The Saudi prince also reassured Putin that ‘whatever regime comes after’ Assad, it will be ‘completely’ in the Saudis’ hands and will not sign any agreement allowing any Gulf country to transport its gas across Syria to Europe and compete with Russian gas exports.”

The nations are disquieted over Syria - verse by verse through Jeremiah 49:23-27
By Craig C. White
Jeremiah 49:23 Concerning Damascus. Hamath is confounded, and Arpad: for they have heard evil tidings: they are fainthearted; there is sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet.
What is Jeremiah telling us? Obviously this prophecy is concerning Damascus, Syria. In the verse above Jeremiah mentions two ...cities. Hamath and Arpad are both located in northwestern Syria. Today Hamah is Syria’s fifth largest city with a population of 313 thousand. Hamah is further south but still close to the Turkish border. Arpad is modern tell Erfad about 25 miles north of Aleppo and about 20 miles south of the Turkish border. These cities are along the path of an invasion launched from Turkey headed towards Damascus.
The people of northwestern Syria have heard intelligence reports that the Turkish army is about to invade Syria. The army’s target is Damascus and they are coming through their cities! The people of northwestern Syria are terrified. Their hearts faint with fear
There is sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet. The sea in bible prophecy can refer to the Mediterranean Sea when it is accompanied with the definite article “the”. The sea can also refer to the nations. There is no article used here in the original Hebrew. I think that Jeremiah is saying that the nations will have great anxiety over the coming Turkish invasion into Syria. The Hebrew word translated sorrow means anxiety, fearfulness, carefulness, or heaviness.
So the nations will be very nervous concerning the coming Turkish invasion into Syria. The Turkish army’s goal is the destruction of Damascus. The English says it well here. The nations will not be able to be still. The Hebrew word translated quiet is defined below. The nations of the world will not be able to be at rest. I think that they are already feeling uneasy concerning Syria.
quiet – shâqat, shaw-kat’
A primitive root; to repose (usually figuratively): – appease, idleness, (at, be at, be in, give) quiet (-ness), (be at, be in, give, have, take) rest, settle, be still.
Jeremiah 49:24 Damascus is waxed feeble, and turneth herself to flee, and fear hath seized on her: anguish and sorrows have taken her, as a woman in travail.
Damascus is waxed feeble. This is the idea of failing in your old age. Damascus is about to die. Damascus turneth herself to flee. This could refer to the city preparing to relinquish its life and it could also refer to the cities inhabitants as they attempt to escape.
The Hebrew word translated fear means to tremble with terror. Anguish and sorrows have taken her, as a woman in travail; literally Damascus is feeling a localized tightness like a woman about to give birth.
Jeremiah 49:25 How is the city of praise not left, the city of my joy!
Two different Hebrew words for city are used in the verse above. The city of praise is a fortified city that has been celebrated in song. When God says “how is the city not left” he could be communicating his astonishment that even after a terrible assault on Damascus, the city has still not surrendered. When God calls Damascus “the city of my joy!” he is specifically saying that he delights in the cities old buildings. Damascus is the oldest continually inhabited city on earth. It was founded by the Aramaeans over four thousand years ago, and was inhabited two thousand years before that. Damascus is a living depiction of human history.
Jeremiah 49:26 Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all the men of war shall be cut off in that day, saith the LORD of hosts.
It sounds like the young men of Damascus will stay behind to defend the city. Perhaps they will be the first line of defense. The young men of Damascus will die in its streets. The Syrian army will be bunkered in Damascus. When God says that all the men of war shall be cut off he means all. Jeremiah isn’t necessarily saying that this assault on Damascus will last only one day. That day refers to the entire duration be it one day or longer.
Jeremiah 49:27 And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it shall consume the palaces of Benhadad.
Let’s remember that this prophecy refers to two separate invasions of Damascus. The first invasion happened in 734 BC. The Assyrian empire invaded Syria, overthrowing several cities as they marched toward Damascus. The Assyrian army conquered Damascus but did not destroy the city. I think that Jeremiah is also prophesying about a second invasion of Damascus that seems to be forming now. God used the terminology kindle a fire to mean that the Assyrian army would besiege the city. Just as the ancient Assyrians assaulted the city in 734 BC, I think that the Turkish army will do likewise soon. The palaces of Benhadad refer to the ancient thrones of Syrian Kings in Damascus. Like the ancient invasion, this future invasion will also destroy Damascus’ seat of government.
So the Turkish army will march down from Syria’s northwestern border terrorizing cities along the way. Their goal is the destruction of Damascus. The nations of the world will be in a tumult. They will not be able to calm down. Damascus will prepare to die. The people will flee and the young men and army will fight to the death never surrendering. The oldest city on earth will be destroyed along with its historical buildings. Jeremiah describes a city under siege not a city obliterated by a single bomb.

The Next Great World Headline! - Turkey Invades Syria!
By Craig C. White
The destruction of Damascus, Syria is foretold in Isaiah 17, Jeremiah 49, and Amos 1. Today Syria is at war. Syria is fighting for its sovereignty. This is not simply a civil war. This is a struggle to overthrow the Syrian government from the outside. World powers find Syria such an essential prize that they have taken sides.... Most outside support has gone to the anti-Syria forces. The US has given Turkey Patriot Missiles and troops. The US has also given the rebels food. funding, weapons, and training. The rebels fighting in Syria have received advanced weapons. This is sure to escalate the violence.
Syria is now in its third year of fighting. It seems that they are no nearer to a conclusion. From a biblical perspective I expect the worse to happen in Syria. That is an outside invasion and the ruinous destruction of Damascus. Waiting for these events is nerve racking. I am impatient but that counts for very little. World powers also seem more impatient. They are calling for military action against Damascus. I think that they will strike Syria when they see a possibility that they might lose their prize. If it looks like the current Syrian regime is getting the upper hand then the world will act swiftly and harshly.
Ezekiel 38 tells us about an invasion into Israel led by Turkey. Turkey leads Iran, Sudan, and Libya into Israel. All of these nations are now fighting in Syria. In 734 BC the Assyrian King Tiglath-pileser led an invasion into Syria and then turned south to invade Israel. According to Old Testament prophets this ancient invasion is a harbinger to a similar future invasion. This future invasion is led by the Antichrist.
I expect the headlines to soon read “Turkey Invades Syria”. That is terrible news. Even worse news is that shortly after Turkey invades Syria and destroys Damascus I expect the headlines to read “Turkey leads invasion into Israel!”
These are the major events that usher in the end of the Church age and the beginning of the time of Israel’s sorrow.

New World Order Map - 4 Quadrants of the Final Gentile World Empire
Revelation 20:8
By Craig C. White
This commentary features a map of the final gentile world empire as described in Daniel chapter 7. The final gentile world empire will be... operational during the Tribulation period. It will be headed by the Antichrist, and it will be destroyed by Jesus Christ at his second coming. The final gentile world empire is also known as “The New World Order”. It is the last chance that God will offer men to rule over the earth. World leaders today are ardently working toward the formation of the New World Order.
My commentary titled “The Leopard is Upon Us!” explains Daniel’s description of the end time formation of this final man ruled empire. My commentary goes through Daniel chapter 7 verse by verse. It is one of my most important commentaries, and this map is its culmination. Please read “The Leopard is Upon Us!” in my eBook “The Fall of Satan and Rise of the Antichrist”.
I know that many of us are confused about the size of the next world empire. Most people think that the Antichrist will rule over the entire earth. He won’t. The final gentile world empire will cover the same geographic region that every world empire has covered; namely the old world.
You probably think that this commentary is about the New World Order; and yes it is. But even more, it is about the very center of the New World Order. I mean the very center of the New World Order politically, as well as the very center of its geography!
According to Daniel chapter 7 the final gentile empire is formed by combining four groups of nations. These “Unions” include 1) The European Union, 2) a new Russian Union, 3) a Central Asian Union, and 4) a Middle Eastern Union. If you ask your pastor about this he will blow a gasket. This subject, along with Daniel chapter 7 has long been neglected and misunderstood.
So there are four groups of nations that combine to form one big empire. That’s easy to understand. But wait, I told you earlier that this commentary was about the center of this world empire. Well there is a nation that sits smack in the middle of these four Unions. It is the geographic center of the New World Order. It is also the place where the leader of the next world empire sits today. That nation is Turkey!
All four quadrants of the final gentile world empire intersect at Turkey. That means that the four corners of the old world meet at the nation of Turkey. So then Turkey is the center of the gentile world. Let’s remember that civilization resumed near Mt. Ararat in eastern Turkey after Noah’s flood.
Just to let you know. God views Turkey as the symbol and very heart of the world’s rebellion. Ezekiel chapter 38 and 39 describe two separate end time invasions into Israel that are led by the ruler of Turkey. Many nations are joined with Turkey during these battles. These battles represent man’s rebellion toward God and the world’s hatred of Israel, God’s chosen people. Both of these battles are led by the “chief prince” or primary leader of Turkey known as “Magog” in Ezekiel. The Hebrew words for “chief prince” in Ezekiel 38:2 practically spell out “Prime Minister”! My commentaries titled “Magog Made Easy!” and “Magog Made Easier!” talk all about Ezekiel chapter 38 and 39.
Magog is the ruler of Turkey. He will lead a near time invasion into Israel (Eze 38). He will also lead another invasion into Israel at the end of the Tribulation period (Eze 39). This latter invasion is also known as the battle of Armageddon. Magog may or may not be the same person during these two battles, but he will always be a leader of Turkey. Some of you may have already realized that Magog leads even another third battle against Israel after the first one thousand year reign on earth of Jesus Christ. This battle is described in Revelation chapter 20 below.
Rev 20:7-9 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, 8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. 9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.
The four quarters of the earth! OK, now this is what this commentary is really about! Four quarters and four corners! The Greek word translated as quarters in Revelation 20:8 is gonia. Gonia means corner or quarter.
go-nee’-ah
an angle: – corner, quarter.
Turkey is where the four quarters of the final man ordained empire collide. Turkey is the center of earthly civilization. Turkey is the geographic center of all of the nations. Turkey is where east meets west. Turkey is the epicenter and symbol of man’s rebellion toward God. Turkey is where Magog will come from. Turkey is where the Antichrist will come from. Turkey will lead the world into battle against Israel now; and Turkey will lead the world into battle against Israel latter.
Turkey is about to invade Syria, decimating Damascus, and then lead a Middle Eastern invasion into Israel. Turkey is where the Antichrist will come from! I think that he will be a Turkish Prime Minister. I think that the Antichrist could be current Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan. I am certain that Prime Minister Erdogan is Magog as described in Ezekiel 38.
Take a look at The New World Order Map below. The four corners of the final man ruled world empire meet at the nation of Turkey.
The New World Order Map depicts the four groups of nations (or Unions) that will combine to create the final gentile world empire. The Antichrist will be the leader of this final man ruled empire. He and it will be destroyed at Jesus Christ’s second coming. I have included Iran in the Central Asian Union. I think that Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India will be the four main nations in the Central Asian Union. Iran may be one of four secondary members. The Leopard in Daniel 7:5 has four heads and also four wings. My commentary titled “The Leopard is Upon Us!” in my eBook “The Fall of Satan and Rise of the Antichrist” details the end time formation of the New World Order.
Today we have all become a little wiser. It is High Time to Awake!
