Hell: Luke 16:19-31 The Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus
(Also in John 5:39-47)

19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: 20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. 27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: 28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. 29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

Matt 5:19a Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: Rev 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

Heaven: Matthew 22:1-14 The Parable of the Banquet (Kingdom of Heaven)
(Also in Luke 14:15-24)
1 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said, 2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, 3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come. 4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. 5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: 6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. 7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. 8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. 9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. 10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.
11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: 12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. 13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

Salvation: Acts 4:1-12 Peter and John Before the Council
1 And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them, 2 Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead. 3 And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide. 4 Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.
5 And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes, 6 And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem. 7 nd when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this? 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, 9 If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; 10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

My Pastor Got Divorced. Some Christian.

How are you dealing with tragedies, be they personal, social, national, political and so on? Are you a "believer?" Are you a Christian or a follower of Christ? Well, know this; the Good News is that as followers of Christ, we have a PERSONAL relationship with God, the creator of the heavens and earth, through Jesus. Our relationship with Him is based on OUR OWN searching of HIM and how we apply His ways in our own lives. The Bible says we are without excuse. That is good news because when man fails you, it's NOT God's fault and it's not your fault, except in relation to the Word of God, and our relationship with God is our own responsibility. (Psalm 20:7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.) (Proverbs 3:1-8 My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, 2. for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity. 3. Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. 4. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. 5. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;6.in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. 7.  Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. 8.This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.)
I have been seeing things that, at least we who say we are Christian, should not be experiencing. And I see things that just should not be. For instance, a wife of an accomplished Christian minister who helped create and organize a well-known event and movement that ministers nation-wide in stadiums and sports arenas, recently passed away, and left his wife and family with nothing. No insurance! - NOTHING! There is a fund, now, by church members, friends and fellow believers to help alleviate expenses and help this unfortunate widow with all that follows the loss of a loved one. Thank God for the love of God through the generosity of the body of Christ.
Then, I know personally quite a few brothers and sisters in Christ who, recently have been married, and some who have already married and have raised their families into their teens or adulthood. What is out of ordinary about these marriages, is that these men and women are mature Christians and have been part of ministry for many years, even before marriage, and have preached, taught and ministered in pulpits, Sunday school, missions trips, and the list goes on. But suddenly, they are divorced. This is happening in every church I have been involved with the past 25 years and it is getting horrible. So much for all the years of inspiration and pom poms! Many in the church are sinning, and they are not acknowledging it, while they are pointing it out in others! Now, I don't always use exclamation points, but when I do, it's because I should. Because these trends continue leading to many forms of destruction, not only of their homes, lives and marriages, but even countless other's around them, in regards to their own personal trust in whether the Scriptures are really true, and even if God really does love and care for them, as they were taught and encouraged. Even my marriage wasdestroyed, a year before I had turned my life over to Jesus, in 1989. It was and is a pain that has never gone away. (James 4:13-17 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14. Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” 16. As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. 17. If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.)
That is why I'm posting these verses, to show we are "set apart," BY God. Some of these verses have been in my heart for weeks now, and finally, through a simple online search that took less than 30 seconds, I saw the following link,  "Bible Verses About Being Set Apart".
We have NO business boohooing and acting like we're defeated, devastated and demolished. (2 Corinthians 4:7-9, 16-18  But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. 8. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9. Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;  16.  For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. 17. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; 18. While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.)
So put your grown up underwear on and act like you know you ARE who you SAY you are! You are God's CHILD! HE is our Heavenly Father! Read the Bible as often as possible, and continue fellowshipping with fellow believers. If you can't find a church to fit into, gather friends and study in a living room.
(Job 40:7 Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.) -God, speaking to Job (Hebrews 10:24,25  And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25. not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.)

Bible Verses About Being Set Apart
What does the Bible say about being set apart? The Bible teaches that those who accept Christ as Lord and Savior are set apart for God's purpose. The following Bible verses illustrate how we need to live in obedience. We are called to follow God's teachings and serve in His kingdom. It is our responsibility to be faithful and obedient so we can discover God's plan for us.
1 Peter 2:9
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Ephesians 2:10
For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

John 17:15-18
My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.

1 Peter 1:15-16
But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."

Jeremiah 1:5
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."

1 John 2:15
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

Colossians 3:1
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.

Leviticus 20:24
But I said to you, "You will possess their land; I will give it to you as an inheritance, a land flowing with milk and honey." I am the LORD your God, who has set you apart from the nations.

Romans 12:1-2
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Acts 13:2
While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."

Leviticus 20:26
You are to be holy to me because I, the LORD, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own.

Romans 1:1
Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God-

Numbers 8:14
In this way you are to set the Levites apart from the other Israelites, and the Levites will be mine.

Galatians 1:15
But when God, who set me apart from birth and called me by his grace, was pleased

Deuteronomy 7:26
Do not bring a detestable thing into your house or you, like it, will be set apart for destruction. Utterly abhor and detest it, for it is set apart for destruction.

Hebrews 7:26
Such a high priest meets our need-one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.

Romans 8:9
You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.

Deuteronomy 10:8
At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister and to pronounce blessings in his name, as they still do today.

1 Peter 3:15
But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,

Judges 16:17
So he told her everything. "No razor has ever been used on my head," he said, "because I have been a Nazirite set apart to God since birth. If my head were shaved, my strength would leave me, and I would become as weak as any other man."

1 Corinthians 3:16-17
Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? 17If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and you are that temple.

Colossians 3:8-10
But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

Psalm 138:8
The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O LORD, endures forever- do not abandon the works of your hands.

1 Peter 2:4-5
As you come to him, the living Stone-rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him- you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

1 Chronicles 23:13
The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Aaron was set apart, he and his descendants forever, to consecrate the most holy things, to offer sacrifices before the LORD, to minister before him and to pronounce blessings in his name forever.

Psalm 4:3
Know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself; the LORD will hear when I call to him.

Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

The Gospel in your Hand
Posted on October 18, 2013
http://gregburdine.com/2013/10/18/the-gospel-in-your-hand/
One of the main reasons believers don’t share their faith is that they feel ill-prepared.  Through Evangelism Explosion, I have discovered a a simple memory tool you can use to share a Gospel presentation – your hand!  Each finger represents a key point of the Gospel.

Using the five fingers on your hand, each finger represents a key point of the Gospel. It’s easy to learn, hard to forget, and you always have it with you. It’s a “hands-on” approach to sharing your faith.

Let me explain:

THUMB—HEAVEN IS A FREE GIFT

Your thumb symbolizes hitching a free ride to heaven, we cannot get there on our own. Use your thumb to make a thumbs up, such as someone who is hitchhiking would do. This is an easy way to remember you need to get a ride to heaven, you cannot get there on your own.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. -Romans 6:23

INDEX FINGER—MAN IS A SINNER AND CANNOT SAVE HIMSELF

Your index finger is the first finger and symbolizes that man usually puts himself first. Using your index finger, or “first finger” is a good way to remember that we tend to put ourselves first. That is because we have a selfish and sinful nature. This symbolizes the second point of the gospel.

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, -Romans 3:23

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.  -Ephesians 2:8-9

MIDDLE FINGER—GOD LOVES YOU, BUT HATES YOUR SIN

Your middle finger is the tallest finger. This is a good representation of God, since He is the creator and beginning of all things. We add the middle finger as we share about the nature of God.

God is love. -1 John 4:8b

Yet he [God] does not leave the guilty unpunished; -Exodus 34:7b

RING FINGER—JESUS IS THE INFINITE GOD-MAN

Your next finger to add to the presentation is the ring finger. This finger represents the marriage of Christ to the church. If you use your right hand as you talk about this, it will be on the right side of the great finger. You can then say that Christ sits at the right hand of the Father. It is very important to share who Jesus Christ is. Jesus Christ is the infinite God-man who died on the cross to pay for our sins and purchase a place in heaven for us.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God … The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. -John 1:1,14

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, ... -1 Peter 2:24

LITTLE FINGER—THIS GIFT IS RECEIVED BY FAITH

Your little finger is the smallest finger and symbolizes faith. The gift of eternal life is received by faith.

… “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” -Acts 16:31

This simply explains the Gospel story.  Once you have shared your faith, it is important to offer the invitation to trust Christ as Savior.  I try to encourage the person I am talking with to pray.

There is no certain prayer that must be used to help someone to receive Christ. If you are not sure what you should pray, below is a simple prayer you might use.

Dear Lord Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner and cannot save myself. I believe you died on the cross to pay for my sin and purchase a place for me in heaven. I receive that gift right now by faith. Lord Jesus come into my heart and be my Lord and my Savior. Amen.

I have found that sharing your faith is rather simple, but it is never easy.  Sharing your faith is a bold move into the darkness of sin.  Satan will fight it.  I’ve found it ironic that we can talk about sports, politics, and health issues with no reluctance. But when it comes to eternal issues, we often relegate this discussion to the ‘professionals.’  I plead with you to share your faith with those you know who need Jesus. He will help you!

Do you have a ‘gospel presentation’ that you have used effectively?

Who are you praying for right now that needs to hear the Gospel story?
