I don't do Halloween, but it would be redundant to list what you should already know, about how ridiculous this days' origins are and how stupid it really is. But I recently saw a tv sitcom, The George Lopez Show, that was about, "the evil eye." George's Mom, Benny, described it as an evil spirit that causes one to lose whatever blessing they may have, simply by speaking of how happy the person is with whatever is going on with their life. It was a good episode on an old wives tale, but the clip is no longer viewable on youtube. But those who fear such things, they grow up being afraid to be happy for what they are blessed with.
Then there's the hilarious "Scrubs" scenes of the evil eye, which I have provided clips from each.
My life, on the other hand, seems to be similar to much of what the George Lopez show conveys, in that all my growing days, being a product of a broken family, times were always tough with my Mom raising 8 children throughout her days raising children. So it took many years after becoming an adult, before I actually began being more financially blessed than ever before, yet still not wealthy.
But somehow, subconsciously, (and maybe a little help from my Mom's superstitions, as she was Italian AND Mexican and knew a lot of superstitions, like drop a knife on the floor and bad luck will happen, and she even read cards before becoming a born again Christian when I was about 10 yrs old etc.) but even without this particular superstition of the evil eye, as an influence, I became fearful of proclaiming my blessings, until very recently. The reason is because all my life I watched everything good continuously come crashing down, over and over again, not only growing up, but in my own personal family life with many jobs along with the failed economies from the 1980's up until now, and a failed marriage and my children suffering as a result of divorce and a bad marriage, just to name a couple aspects. But ultimately, I want to dispel any notions that any superstitious version of "the evil eye", is just that; superstition. And any Biblical version of the "evil eye", is just that; an evil eye, which is simply a look in one's face or in one's heart or mind, that is just not nice.
Shakespeare wrote, "The eye is the window to the soul." And Jesus said in Luke 11:34, "The light of the body is the eye: therefore when your eye is single, your whole body also is full of light; but when your eye is evil, your body also is full of darkness."
Here are a couple examples on "evil eye" definitions from wikipedia and one of it's source listings:
The evil eye is a look that is believed by many cultures to be able to cause injury or bad luck for the person at whom it is directed for reasons of envy or dislike. The term also refers to the power attributed to certain persons of inflicting injury or bad luck by such an envious or ill-wishing look. The evil eye is usually given to others who remain unaware.
The "evil eye" is also known in Arabic as ʿayn al-ḥasūd (عين الحسود), in Hebrew as ʿayn ha-rʿa (עין הרע), in Turkish as Nazar, in Greek as "το μάτι," and in Spanish as mal de ojo.[1]
The idea expressed by the term causes many cultures to pursue protective measures against it. The concept and its significance vary widely among different cultures, primarily the Middle East. The idea appears several times in translations (Tirgumim) of the Old Testament.[2] It was a widely extended belief among many Mediterranean and Asian tribes and cultures. Charms and decorations featuring the eye are a common sight across Greece and Turkey and have become a popular choice of souvenir with tourists. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evil_Eye
The evil eye is a widespread belief that unlucky events can ensue if you attract the attention of particular people. These people, sometimes involuntarily, sometimes voluntarily, can cast a malignant spell on others simply by looking at them. http://www.sacred-texts.com/evil/tee/index.htm
What is my point? Don't be afraid to proclaim God's blessings on your life! Don't LIE to people, and tell them you are just as bad off as they are! I have ALWAYS read from, and listened to those who spoke and taught that hard work and persistence pays off. If you want to encourage someone, tell them how your tenacity and dedication worked in your favor. You worked hard, and you saw and see the results of persistence!
Give God the glory for your success! (Psalm 145:1. I will extol you, my God, O king; and I will bless your name for ever and ever. 2. Every day will I bless you; and I will praise your name for ever and ever. 3. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable. 4. One generation shall praise your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. 5. I will speak of the glorious honor of your majesty, and of your wondrous works.)
I'll leave you with one more thing: Jesus said in Luke 6:35-38: 35. But love you your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and you shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind to the unthankful and to the evil. 36. Be you therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. 37. Judge not, and you shall not be judged: condemn not, and you shall not be condemned: forgive, and you shall be forgiven: 38. Give, and it shall be given to you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you mete with it shall be measured to you again.
Put these principles to your life and get to know Jesus. Your time on earth and your future in the here-after depend on what you decide now. Do the right thing and that is all that counts.

I couldn't fing the George lopez and Benny "Evil Eye." It was removed so here's this just for kicks.
